Styrofoam es el proyecto personal del belga Arne Van Petegem, personaje inquieto que ha ido modificando constantemente el carácter de su música. Yo lo descubrí con un hermoso de disco de pop electrónico llamado "I'm What's There To Show That Something's Missing", y luego le seguí la pista escuchando otro album llamado "Nothing's lost" en donde aprovechó el pequeño éxito del album anterior para convocar a una serie de colaboradores de cierta fama en el circuito de la música independiente, entre ellos el cantante de Death Cab for Cutie, la cantante de Lali Puna, y un rapero del cual no recuerdo el nombre. Si en el primer disco mencionado lo que primó fue una electrónica de tono casero con estribillos tristes, en el segundo se incorporaron más tonalidades y un mejor sonido, convirtiéndose en un eco del fenómeno Postal Service, pero con la diferencia de incluir ciertos elementos del hip hop.
Su último disco corresponde a una colaboración con el rapero Fat Jon, la cual lleva por nombre "the same channel". En este disco se realiza un engendro ya no muy novedoso entre pop electrónico y hip hop, pero con algunos resultados interesantes, cosa que le ha servido para estar nuevamente en vitrina.
Desde esta página solo me atrevo a recomendar " I'm what's there to show that something's missing", a mi juicio su mejor disco. En esta obra se podrá encontrar un honesto ejercicio de electrónica semi artesanal, a la cual se le inyecta una humilde cuota de emotividad por medio de teclados y voces que se acoplan en un viaje que va de la tristeza a la esperanza.
